Admissions
Admission's Policy
Arden Primary School is a 3 form entry school with a place nursery based on site. There are 40 part time places in the nursery and 90 places in each year group. Children are admitted to the Nursery in the term after their third birthday. Children are admitted to a Reception class each September.
Parents or Carers have to apply through the town hall, Stockport Council website to get places in Nursery and then re-apply again for reception classes. Make sure you get your application in early, as places are limited and there is often a waiting list.
Admission for Children in Years 1-6
Choosing the correct school is an important decision, you want your child to be happy and you want to feel that the school suits their needs, it is important when choosing your child’s school that you have viewed several so that you can make the right choice.
If you have just moved into the area or have a child at another school who wants to join us we may have some places in other classes.
The admission process is simple for children aged 5-11. Come in and check we have places available and we will be delighted to show you around.
You will then need to fill in the online form.
Where numbers of children exceed places, a waiting list will be drawn up. The order of priority for these places is as follows:
1. ‘Children in need’ as defined in the Children Act 1989.
2. Children with brothers or sisters attending the school.
3. Children who live nearest to the school.
Admission Information for Children with SEN
Pupils with Special Educational Needs will be admitted to Arden in line with the local authority admissions’ policy. The school is aware of the statutory requirements of the SEN and Disability Act’s requirements. Induction meetings will be used to work closely with you to ascertain whether your child has been identified as having Special Educational Needs and we will endeavour to collect all relevant information about your child’s development and plan a successful induction.
Arden ensures it meets the duties under the Local Authority Admissions Code of Practice by:
- Not refusing admission for a child that has named the school in their EHC plan.
- Adopting fair practices and arrangements in accordance with the Local Authority Admission Code for the admission of children without an EHC plan.
- Considering applications from parents of children who have SEN but do not have an EHC plan.
- Not refusing admission for a child who has SEN but does not have an EHC plan because the school does not feel able to cater for those needs.
- Not refusing admission for a child on the grounds that they do not have an EHC plan
If you would like your child to join our school you will need to make an application to the Stockport Council admissions department.
