Admissions
Admissions Policy
Arden Primary School is a 3 form entry primary school with a nursery based on site. Each year, we can admit up to 90 children in our Reception classes.
There are 40 part time places in the nursery and 90 places in each year group. Children are admitted to the Nursery in the term after their third birthday. Children are admitted to a Reception class each September. Children start reception full-time in the September following their fourth birthday. For example, if your child turns 4 in June, they'll start school in September that same year.
Parents or Carers have to apply through Stockport Council website to get places in Nursery and then re-apply again for reception classes. Make sure you get your application in early, as places are limited and there is often a waiting list! If you need any support with your application, give our school office a call on 0161 430 2675.
Tours of the school
Choosing the correct school is an important decision. You want your child to be happy and you want to feel that the school suits their needs. We know and understand that it is important when choosing your child's school that you have viewed several so that you can make the right choice. Arden offers a rolling, fortnightly school tour, where parents are invited to be shown around the school by the Headteacher, Mr Briggs, or Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Dunn. We also host open evenings each year in the Autumn term.
IN-YEAR ADMISSIONS FOR YEARS 1 - 6
If you have just moved into the area, or have a child at another school who wants to join us, we may have some places in other classes.
The admission process is simple for children aged 5 - 11. Give the school office a call on 0161 430 2675 and we will be more than happy to advise you on whether we have spaces in the relevant year group/s before booking you in for a tour.
To proceed with an in year admission or transfer, you will need to complete the relevant online form.
Where numbers of children exceed places, a waiting list will be drawn up. The order of priority for these places is as follows:
-
'Children in need' as defined in the Children Act 1989.
-
Children with brothers or sisters attending the school.
-
Children who live nearest to the school.
Admission Information for Children with SEN
Pupils with Special Educational Needs will be admitted to Arden in line with the local authority admissions' policy. The school is aware of the statutory requirements of the SEN and Disability Act's requirements. Induction meetings will be used to work closely with you to ascertain whether your child has been identified as having Special Educational Needs and we will endeavour to collect all relevant information about your child's development and plan a successful induction.
Arden ensures it meets the duties under the Local Authority Admissions Code of Practice by:
-
Not refusing admission for a child that has named the school in their EHC plan.
-
Adopting fair practices and arrangements in accordance with the Local Authority Admission Code for the admission of children without an EHC plan.
-
Considering applications from parents of children who have SEN but do not have an EHC plan.
-
Not refusing admission for a child who has SEN but does not have an EHC plan because the school does not feel able to cater for those needs.
-
Not refusing admission for a child on the grounds that they do not have an EHC plan
If you would like your child to join our school you will need to make an application to the Stockport Council admissions department.
