Safeguarding Policy

All the staff in our school are committed to safeguarding all our children.

We will strive to:

  • Provide a safe environment for our children

  • Notice and take appropriate action to help any of our children who are either at risk of, or are suffering from, significant harm

KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE AT ARDEN

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone’s responsibility. Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families and carers has a role to play in safeguarding children.

At Arden Primary School, the safety and wellbeing of our children is our top priority. We are committed to providing a safe and welcoming learning environment where children feel respected and valued. This commitment is underpinned by our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard all children.

WHAT DOES SAFEGUARDING MEAN?

Safeguarding, as defined by the Department for Education's 'Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023' guidance, involves:

  • Protecting children from harm (maltreatment, abuse, neglect)

  • Supporting their mental and physical health and development

  • Ensuring they grow up in safe and nurturing environments

  • Empowering them to reach their full potential

OUR SAFEGUARDING APPROACH AT ARDEN

Following the principles outlined in "Keeping Children Safe in Education," we have robust procedures in place to identify and address any concerns about a child's safety. This includes being alert to signs of abuse and neglect, and ensuring every child receives the support and protection they need.

EVERYONE HAS A ROLE TO PLAY

Safeguarding is a shared responsibility. Everyone at Arden Primary School, including staff, volunteers, governors, and any adult visiting our school site, plays a crucial role. These procedures are consistent with those of Stockport's Safeguarding Children Board, ensuring a coordinated approach across the community. We believe in open communication and collaboration with parents, carers, and external agencies. By working together, we can create a safe and supportive environment where everyone within our school community feels valued and protected.

ENTRY AND EXIT TO SCHOOL

Doors and entrances are locked at 8.55am. Visitors or late arrivals are asked to use the main entrance of the building and report to the school office.

Our school gates are locked and cannot be opened between 8.30am and 9am, and from 2.45pm to 3.45pm. This is to safeguard children and visitors entering and exiting our school site at busy times. Both our vehicle gate and pedestrian gate are accessed via intercom at all other times.

All visitors to school will be asked to sign in and out at the office and wear the relevant coloured lanyard which denotes their DBS status. Visitors wearing an orange lanyard must be accompanied at all times by a member of staff.

However, we have a dedicated team at Arden with specific safeguarding responsibilities:
