Schools of Sanctuary

OUR SCHOOL OF SANCTUARY

At Arden Primary School, we are proud to announce our commitment to becoming a recognised School of Sanctuary. This status is part of a nationwide initiative aimed at creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive spaces for everyone, particularly those seeking sanctuary. Our school community is dedicated to creating an environment where all students feel valued, supported, and included.

What is a school of sanctuary?

A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to being a place of safety and inclusion for everyone, especially for those who have experienced displacement and persecution. This status is awarded to schools that actively promote a culture of welcome and support, ensuring that all children, regardless of their background, feel safe and valued. We are working closely with Stockport's Ethnic Diversity Team to achieve this goal, ensuring that we meet the highest standards of inclusivity and support.

BENEFITS

Our commitment to being a School of Sanctuary has significant benefits for children. By fostering an environment where all students feel secure and accepted, we can significantly improve their emotional and psychological wellbeing, which is especially important for children who have faced trauma and upheaval in their lives. Our inclusive curriculum acknowledges and celebrates diversity, helping all students understand and appreciate different cultures and experiences, thereby promoting empathy and respect among peers. Additionally, our curriculum seeks to be representative of all people, ensuring that every child sees themselves reflected in their education. A supportive and welcoming environment enables children to thrive academically. When students feel safe and included, they are more likely to engage in learning and achieve their full potential.

This initiative also brings numerous benefits to our school community. By working towards Schools of Sanctuary status, we are fostering a sense of unity and togetherness within our school community. This initiative encourages staff, students, and parents to work collaboratively in creating an inclusive and supportive environment. Our staff will receive training and resources to better understand the needs of children seeking sanctuary and to implement best practices for inclusion. This professional development ensures that we are well-equipped to support all our students effectively. Embracing the principles of sanctuary helps us cultivate a positive school culture that prioritises kindness, respect, and understanding, benefiting everyone and making Arden Primary School a better place to learn and grow.

Arden Primary School goes above and beyond to welcome families seeking sanctuary, and we have been commended for our efforts in this area. We are dedicated to achieving Schools of Sanctuary status through continuous learning, community engagement, and inclusive practices. We believe that every child deserves a safe and supportive environment where they can flourish. By working towards this status, we reaffirm our commitment to the values of compassion, diversity, and excellence in education. Join us on this important journey as we strive to make Arden Primary School a true sanctuary for all our students and a beacon of hope and inclusivity in our community.
